Michael New is a Las Vegas-based music educator, guitarist, author, and multi-instrumentalist with more than twenty years of teaching experience and over three decades of performance experience.
He is an Adjunct Instructor of Guitar at the College of Southern Nevada and serves as Education Director at Family Music Centers. Michael also works as a music paraprofessional with the Clark County School District and previously served as an Adjunct Guitar Instructor at the University of the Incarnate Word.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from Kennesaw State University, where he studied with Mary Akerman and graduated summa cum laude; he later pursued graduate studies in guitar performance at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he studied with Matthew Dunne. His musical background includes classical and jazz guitar, bass guitar, piano, and extensive performance experience in solo, small ensemble, and large ensemble settings.
As an author, Michael has written three instructional guitar books and numerous arrangements, transcriptions, and educational materials. He currently maintains a private studio of more than 50 students.
In addition to teaching, Michael remains active as a performer and arranger, with experience spanning classical music, jazz, musical theater, ensemble performance, and contemporary styles.
